The Buhay Isang Awit Foundation, Inc., incorporated on June 4, 2002, aims to contribute to the cultural and economic development and moral upliftment of the country. It does this by promoting cultural shows with a message about values, discovering and promoting the talents of Filipino artists, educating deserving Filipino youths and assisting other charitable/development organizations.

To promote indigenous talent, the foundation sponsors activities like concerts, road shows and art competitions in collaboration with other organizations, government offices and the media.

Among its accomplishments, Buhay Isang Awit Foundation presented the Awit…Pag-Ibig, Alay, Papuri full-orchestra concert rendition of the music of founder Bing Pimentel on December 13, 2002.

The foundation adopted the critically acclaimed Nasaan si Hesus? road show, directed and written by Nestor Torre for Bing Pimentel’s music. The show, which depicts the difficulties of being a Christian in modern times, has been presented 73 times in dioceses throughout the country.

In 2004, the foundation also took on the production of the Buhay Isang Awit CD of Bing Pimentel’s compositions, and in 2006, it produced the musical Buhay Isang Awit, which was based on Senator Aquilino “Nene” Q. Pimentel, Jr.’s book Martial Law in the Philippines: My Story and which featured the compositions of Bing Pimentel.

Proceeds from these productions fund scholarships that the foundation offers to deserving indigent students throughout the Philippines. Currently, the foundation offers full tuition scholarships to 14 students — two in high schools and 12 in colleges and universities.

Additionally, the foundation sponsors activities like Art for Change Contest organized by the Office of Senator Pimentel in November 2007 and the Art for Sale Contest in December 2007.

“We want to instill in the youth and the public an awareness of social conditions through art, the performance arts and the media. We hope to stir the public’s consciousness and perhaps even move them to constructive action through songs, music, paintings and drama,” said Bing Pimentel.

The foundation assists other charity organizations and NGOs by making the musicals available for their fund-raising efforts at cost. Many organizations have availed of this, earning revenue through ticket sales, including: the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, the EDSA People Power Commission, the Diocesan and Youth Commission, the United Social Security System Members Inc., the University of Baguio, the cities of Marikina, Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog, the municipality of Bacoor, the dioceses of Butuan, Malaybalay and Illigan, Couples for Christ North Sector C, St. Paul College Manila, Subic Bay Arts Center, Remejus Foundation, various parishes, churches, cooperatives and religious organizations.

Currently, Buhay Isang Awit Foundation is producing a musical about former President Corazon Aquino. The play, written by Nestor Torre, will feature songs by Bing Pimentel.

Your generous donations will go a long way towards promoting and supporting culture and art in the Philippines. To make your contributions, please contact:
